The EACB’s Board of Directors believe that exposure to the arts is a vital part of every child’s education. Our mission is best accomplished through partnership with others in our community. As an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization, we are committed to supporting and maintaining the highest quality of artistic vision and education.
One facet of our mission is integrating arts and education by bringing classical ballet to those who might not otherwise be able to participate in or experience it. For over sixteen years, our commitment to the arts and our use of community talent have allowed the EACB to perform The Nutcracker, a beautiful tradition that has become a signature event of the holiday season in East Alabama.
In addition to the public performance, EACB also gives third graders in Lee County and surrounding school districts the opportunity to experience the magic of ballet by attending a special production as part of an outreach project that includes curriculum materials provided to their classrooms free of charge. Apart from The Nutcracker, our dancers have conducted dance workshops for children at the Girls and Boys Club of Lee County, and our organization donates an annual $1500 scholarship to the Auburn University Theatre Department to promote the study of the performing arts at an advanced level. We are proud to support arts education for all ages.
Of course, our efforts come with a price. We depend on community support to continue the EACB tradition. Some of our major annual costs include but are not limited to transportation expenses for the school children, books and supplies for their ballet-related curriculum, costume and set maintenance for our production, and stipends for guest artist participants from the Montgomery Ballet.
Our sponsors this year include: East Alabama Medical Center, Alabama Power, and Main Street Drycleaners.
