That’s a wrap!

2017 cast

The 2017 production of The Nutcracker did not disappoint! The kids loved the school shows on Thursday and Friday, as our very own Shelby Chaney returned as the Sugar Plum Fairy.  Be sure to thank Chick Fil A and Mr. Bill Bailey for providing lunch for our dancers on both days.

Although Friday proved to be an emotional day for Mrs. Angie, Mrs. Carol, Mrs. Allie, parents and cast, they came together and poured their heartache into dance on opening night.  Our 2012 Clara, Carly Parker, had lost her 10 year battle with cancer. Even those of us who didn’t know her personally were deeply affected by this news, as those who were close to her were devastated. Dancing through their tears, the girls made this Carly’s Nutcracker.

On Saturday morning, 178 moms and little girls flooded Telfair Peet to enjoy Clara’s Tea Party, surpassing the attendance of past years.  They spent the first half of the morning watching Clara as she danced through the land of sweets .  Then they played games, met some of the cast, and enjoyed some treats.

The cast danced beautifully as always, giving the patrons a show they will never forget. Thank you to our sponsors for supporting our worthy organization.

Below is an excerpt from this year’s program, written by Amy Parker, EACB president:

“Thank you for supporting the East Alabama Community Ballet and for attending our 2017 production of The Nutcracker. I hope that it was a truly magical experience for you and your family! This wonderful production would not be all that it is without the contributions of so many people. Our artistic directors, choreographers, dancers, the EACB board, and our generous sponsors are all so appreciated but I would like to send a special thank you to the parents of our dancers. Thank you for every ride to and from the studio and for waiting in the lobby for us to “run it one more time.” Thanks for making sure that your dancer had a water bottle, a snack for every break, pink tights, and bobby pins – lots and lots of bobby pins! Thank you for measuring angels, making props, selling nutcrackers, taking pictures, ripping seams, gluing umbrellas, washing leos, hanging posters, and buying tickets. From signs in your yards to the magnets on your cars, you have been our biggest fans! We absolutely could not do it without each one of you!”
